Single-Player Immersion vs Multiplayer Energy

From what I’ve seen, yes. And this article explains why – https://www.clnsmedia.com/why-boomers-and-gen-z-play-the-same-games-differently/. Older players often connect through narrative immersion, since early consoles had limited online play. Younger gamers grew up with instant matchmaking, so “fun” means friends laughing in a party chat. Neither side is wrong, just different mental anchors for enjoyment.

I drift between both. Some evenings I need silence and story, other times I crave chaotic rounds of Apex with friends. It’s comforting that gaming covers both moods.

I’ve poured hundreds of hours into Witcher 3, just roaming villages, getting lost in dialogue trees. My younger nephew says any game without lobbies or voice chat is “boring.” It’s like he sees games primarily as a social hangout while I treat them like novels I can walk through. Are these preferences tied to when we started gaming?
