So I just came back from a trip to Kerala, and while hanging out with some locals, they introduced me to a game they called “28.” It was honestly so much fun, but I had no idea what was going on half the time. When I got home, I tried looking it up and stumbled across this article – https://www.mirrorreview.com/regional-card-games/. It talks about a bunch of regional card games across India and other places too. I’m curious now – are these kinds of games really that big regionally? Anyone here play any of these or know how to get into learning them properly?

I’ve also been trying to get into lesser-known card games. It’s wild how much variety is out there that we never hear about unless we travel or stumble across it like this. Definitely following for more info!

Yes, regional card games like “28,” “Ronda,” or “Cuarenta” are super popular in their home countries, and many have deep cultural roots. “28,” for instance, is huge in parts of South India, especially Kerala. It’s trick-based, usually played by four players in partnerships. That article you found actually gives a great overview of these games and where they come from. If you're really interested in learning, I'd start with videos and local forums dedicated to each game—it helps a lot.
