Betting exchange or bookmaker for beginners?

Hey everyone, I’ve just recently started looking into sports betting and I’m a bit stuck on where to begin. I came across this article — https://sportsdigest.in/betting-exchange-vs-traditional-bookmaker/146750/ — that compares exchanges and traditional bookmakers, but I’m still not 100% sure which is better for someone totally new. Bookmakers seem easier to use, but people keep telling me that exchanges give better odds in the long run. I tried checking out a betting exchange and honestly, the layout looked super confusing. I don’t want to mess up my first few bets, so would you guys say it's safer to just stick with a bookmaker at the start?

I only ever bet on big events like the Euros or finals, so I never even thought there was a difference between all these platforms. I usually just go with whatever app gives me a free bet offer at the time. Still, this thread’s making me curious now.

I’ve been in the same spot not long ago. I started off using a bookmaker too just because everything is laid out clearly — especially for live games or accumulator bets. Once I felt more confident, I gave exchanges a go, and while they are a bit trickier to figure out, the flexibility and odds are hard to ignore. I still bounce between both depending on the event. Honestly, if I could go back, I’d do it the same way — learn on a bookmaker, then ease into exchanges later. But yeah, that article you linked already explains most of what I figured out the hard way.
