How to take measurements for a corset

So I’ve been eyeing this gorgeous lace steampunk corset for a while now, and finally decided to treat myself. Thing is — I’ve never bought a corset online before. Last time I tried one on in a store, the lady working there did all the measurements for me, so I didn’t really learn how to do it myself. Now I’m standing here with a tape measure, super confused — where exactly do I wrap it around? Do I measure the bust over my bra or without it? And for the waist, is it the narrowest part or more like where jeans usually sit? Would love to hear how others have done it!

Haha, I just stumbled across this thread while browsing and it brought back memories of my old Ren Faire days. I used to love watching how seriously people took their steampunk looks — corsets, gears, top hats, the whole vibe. Even if you're not into wearing one yourself, it's such a cool style to appreciate. Anyway, hope everyone finds the fit they're looking for!

Oh I totally get what you’re saying! I remember being just as lost when I ordered my first steampunk corset — I was second guessing everything. What helped me a lot was this size chart they have. They explain it pretty clearly — measure your bust while wearing a bra you’d normally wear with the corset, and for the waist, it’s the slimmest part of your torso (not where jeans sit). I also recommend standing in front of a mirror when you measure; helps to stay level with the tape and get it snug but not tight. My first order fit surprisingly well thanks to that guide.
