Classic muscle car tune-up

Been restoring an old ‘71 Camaro with my brother the past few months, and we finally got around to tweaking the carburetor — it’s an Edelbrock 1406. While searching for basic tuning info, I came across this site: https://manuals.online/edelbrock. Looks like it has the official manuals, but I still have some questions. What’s the best way to fine-tune this model for better throttle response without messing with the fuel economy too much? Anyone been through this?

Adjusting the main and idle jets can help with throttle snappier without turning your Camaro into a gas guzzler. Slightly richer—but not greedy—jet sizes enhance mid-throttle response while keeping economy realistic.

Had the same carb on a ‘69 Chevelle and spent a good bit of time dialing it in. The trick is getting the right balance between idle mixture screws and step-up springs. Once you find the right calibration kit for your engine setup, it makes a world of difference. The official manual breaks it down pretty well, especially the tuning charts and vacuum settings. That's where I learned how to tweak things without going full trial and error.
